With the European Study Center in Strasbourg as your home base, you will have the freedom to explore, travel, and learn abroad with the support and safety of our dedicated Château staff and study abroad program team. During your term abroad, you will live at the Château de Pourtalès, participate in cultural and professional excursions around France, Germany, and beyond, and will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture.
The European Study Center will be your home abroad whether you study abroad as a direct enroll student at the University of Strasbourg (Fall and Spring) or during the Summer as part of the Summer Leadership Program. Year-round, students will take classes at the Château, attend local and international excursions as part of the curriculum, and engage with fellow students in a supportive learning environment.
As a study abroad student, you can purchase a Carte Culture (“Culture Card”) at the University of Strasbourg. This card provides a discount for cultural events, festivals, museums, and activities in 80 venues across Alsace.
The University of Strasbourg has more than 150 student groups and clubs. EM and Sciences Po also have their own student organizations designed specifically for international students at their colleges.
There are 50 on-campus sports clubs, intramural groups, teams, and courses. International students are encouraged to get involved in the University of Strasbourg’s sports associations during their stay abroad.
The University of Strasbourg will provide grades for all of its courses in the French system (1-20). Grades will be issued on the University of Strasbourg transcripts as ECTS credits and transcripts will be prepared for each student who successfully completes their coursework and exams from the University of Strasbourg.
In most cases, two courses at the University of Strasbourg will transfer back to your home university as a single 3-US-credit course (2:1 ratio). Work with your study abroad office to select the courses and determine the appropriate course numbers and identifiers for when they are transcripted.
Courses at the Chateau will be awarded by your home institution* or from West Virginia University (direct enrollment with CEPA Foundation only).
