Biography
Dr. Birte Wassenberg is head of the research axis on the actors of European construction at the Research Unit Dynamiques européennes (UMR). She held a Jean Monnet Chair (2013-2016) on the contribution of cross-border cooperation to the European Neighbourhood Policy, is deputy director of the Franco-German Jean-Monnet Center of Excellence, and director of a Master in Border Studies. From 1993 to 2006, she was responsible for cross-border cooperation at the Région Alsace. Birte WASSENBERG is also a visiting professor at the College of Europe (Bruges campus), and a member of the consortium on the history of the European Commission. With Bernard Reitel she edited a Critical Dictionary of cross border cooperation in Europe (2020). Birte Wassenberg is the coordinator of the Jean Monnet Network and the team on the Franco-German border. She leads the steering group and the scientific committee.
