CEPA Foundation
The Ecole de Management (EM) Strasbourg is a French business school founded in 1919. Since 2000 it is one of the elite grandes écoles in France, ranking in the top 15 business schools in the nation. EM is one of France’s few business schools operating within the traditional University environment and has the AACSB accreditation.
The Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Strasbourg, also known as IEP Strasbourg or Sciences Po Strasbourg was the second IEP, founded on October 9, 1945, after the IEP Paris (Sciences Po). IEP was incorporated into the University of Strasbourg in 2009, and offers the opportunity to study European politics at the seat of the EU Parliament.
As an exchange student, you can purchase a Carte Culture (“Culture Card”) at the University of Strasbourg. This card provides a discount for cultural events, festivals, museums, and activities in 80 venues across Alsace.
The University of Strasbourg has more than 150 student groups and clubs. EM and IEP also have their own student organizations designed specifically for international exchange students at their colleges.
There are 50 on-campus sports clubs, intramural groups, teams, and courses. International students are encouraged to get involved in the University of Strasbourg’s sports associations during their stay abroad.
Chateau Courses
Description: Students will learn about the European idea and the different approaches to European Integration. The course brings together all of the experiential learning components of the program (e.g. excursions, professional visits, guest lectures, etc.).
Hours: 29 classroom hours + 6 hours “Castle Talks” International Symposium + 10 hours for participation in course-related excursions, field trips, and guest lectures scheduled throughout the semester.
Description: This course is an introduction to the European integration process which is creating “an ever-closer Union among the peoples of Europe”. The course will focus on three questions: Who are the main European actors? How is the European Union working? What is the European Union doing? In this perspective, the course will present the European Union compared to the Council of Europe and the Federal States. Then, the institutional system of the EU will be examined, that main: the interest of the treaty and the EU legal framework and the present decision-making process. Finally, the European citizenship will be studied, and the difficulties of the last enlargement will be discussed. Throughout the course, the United States and the American International Organizations (NAFTA and OAS…) will be used as comparative referents.
Hours: 35 classroom hours + 10 hours for participation in course-related excursions, field trips, and guest lectures scheduled throughout the semester.
Description: This seminar is designed for students to hone in on developing their professional, academic, and personal skills during their study abroad program. The seminar is specifically designed to meet students where they are and guide them into a deeper reflection. The seminar will help our students put their understanding into context and prepare for their future personal and professional lives. Students and on-site team will meet regularly during the students’ study abroad experience. Students will participate in a number of cultural excursions, a service learning opportunity, business visits, an international symposium, a number of reflective discussions, and engage in culture and career development activities.

Chateau Courses
Description: This course aims to be thought provoking as it takes students on a journey into new thinking about leadership. Students will learn how to effectively interact in culturally appropriate and sustainable ways. Through readings, research, dialogue, and interactive learning, we will explore what it means to be a global leader in a complex world.
Description: This course informs students of key concepts and theories surrounding intercultural communication. In our interdependent world, students of all majors need intercultural communication knowledge, skills, and sensitivities to be able to optimize their roles as citizens and employees.

The University of Strasbourg will provide grades for all of its courses in the French system (1-20). Grades will be issued on the University of Strasbourg transcripts as ECTS credits and transcripts will be prepared for each student who successfully completes their coursework and exams from the University of Strasbourg.
Courses at the Chateau will be awarded by your home institution* or from West Virginia University (direct enrollment with CEPA Foundation only).
If you are a non-WVU student who will receive a WVU transcript, follow the steps below to request your transcript:
*Students enrolled in the semester program through an Affiliate Institution, such as Georgia State University, Mercer University, or the University of the Incarnate Word will receive the US transcripts directly from their home university.
Summer Leadership Program transcripts will be issued by the University of the Incarnate Word. Students will receive credit for two 3-credit courses for a total of 6 credits. The courses are a Global Leadership class and an Intercultural Communications class (which may be designated as a Sociology or Business course, see below).
